Sightings 9/2/11

YATE:
A good showing of small birds here today: 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, c.50 Redwing, a Jay, 20 Siskin, 4 Lesser Redpoll and 4 Bullfinch. Still 7 Canada Goose on Cooper's lake (D Pearce).


BRADLEY STOKE:
28 Waxwing in Dewfall Drive 9.45am (G Ball).

BRISTOL (Easton):
30 Waxwings present in Stapleton Rd 10am this morning (M Davis).

SEVERNSIDE:
Chittening Warth:
9.2.11 Turnstones at Stup Pill this morning

Waders present: 16 Dunlin, 1 Jack Snipe, 38 Redshank and 24 Turnstone (per severnsidebirds).

Another couple of pictures, taken this morning, of the the male Black Redstart which has been a regular visitor into Helen's garden since 2 January. 

With a bit of luck, he might meet up with the female bird not far away near the lock gates..........

BATH:
12 Brambling in the university grounds today (D French).

GOA (India):
Just outside the Avon area, a Blyth's Reed Warbler reported by the hotel window this morning (P Bowyer).

Gambia January 2011:
Some more pictures and words regarding John Thorogood's recent Gambia trip now posted to the Articles page. 
Gambia is a very popular birding destination for many people and the birds and venues mentioned in John's article will make very familiar reading to lots of members. Many thanks John.


Brean beach 8/2/11:
A dispiriting discovery: a dead Gannet found washed up on the beach, the bird appeared to have been shot (V Castle).


Portishead 7/2/11:
6 Purple Sandpiper at Battery Pt (JF Copeland). Our best count so far this winter.
