Sightings 8/2/11

Early morning fog, especially at the coast, then clearing into a lovely sunny afternoon.


PILNING:
8.2.11 digi-scoped in garden: photo John Martin, many thanks

4 male Siskin on the garden feeders today plus the usual male Blackcap (J Martin).


SEVERNSIDE:
New Passage/Northwick: 10 Greylag Goose (fogbound birds), 200 Wigeon, 2 Shoveler, 1,000 Dunlin, 3 Bar-tailed Godwit, 15 Redshank, 2 Turnstone and 2 Raven (per severnsidebirds).


PORTBURY WHARF:
2 Great Black-backed Gull on the pools this afternoon (unusual here) and 3 soaring Buzzard in the sunshine (S Hale)


PORTISHEAD MARINA:
The Black Redstart still present on the rocky beach near the fishermans pier today, now on its 6th week of stay.
Fortunately, it was too foggy for us to take a picture.


BARROW TANKS:
7 Goldeneye on No.3 tank plus a very large gathering of Crows in the adjoining sheep-fields (P Baber).


BACKWELL LAKE:
The Bittern showed well briefly at 5.25pm before retiring back into the main reed-bed. 2 Little Egret and 60 Redwing at the pool of note plus the usual waterfowl suspects (P Baber).


NAILSEA:
8 Yellowhammer in the garden late afternoon, also 2 Song Thrush and 2 Redwing (T Jeal).


BATH:
A Nuthatch and 8 Long-tailed Tit in the University grounds 4pm (D French).


CHEDDAR RES:
8.2.11 Black-necked Grebes: photo John Thorogood, many thanks


5 Little Grebe, a Red-crested Pochard, 2 Scaup and 20+ Goosander also nearby.
